Resumo Este estudo objetivou conhecer a riqueza e estrutura de orquídeas epífitas e seus forófitos, avaliar as interações entre estas duas assembleias, bem como, amostrar as espécies forofíticas e não forofíticas para orquídeas em um remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista sob influência nebular no Planalto Serrano Catarinense. A amostragem foi realizada no Complexo Serra da Farofa, em uma parcela de 5.000 m2. A riqueza e estrutura das assembleias arbóreas, forofítica e não forofítica e de orquídeas foram avaliadas. Três espécies de orquídeas foram registradas, colonizando 15 espécies de forófitos. A distribuição espacial dos forófitos e orquídeas foi agregada. Os forófitos colonizados por orquídeas apresentaram altura e Diâmetro a Altura do Peito (DAP), significativamente maiores que demais forófitos. O ritidoma do tipo rugoso foi o mais comum em forófitos colonizados por orquídeas. Drimys angustifolia (Winteraceae) e Myrceugenia euosma (Myrtaceae) foram as principais espécies forofíticas, cruciais para a manutenção da assembleia de orquídeas neste local. As informações deste manuscrito destacam a proteção in situ de Cattleya coccinea, mediante a abundância dela no local. Estas informações irão beneficiar diretamente a conservação e restauração de assembleias biológicas com características semelhantes a este local.

Abstract The objective of this study was to learn about the richness and structure of epiphytic orchids and their phorophytes, to evaluate the interactions between these assemblages, and to sample host and non-host species of orchids in a remnant of Upper-Montane Araucaria Forest (FOMA). Sampling was carried out in the Serra da Farofa Complex, on a plot of 5,000 m2. Three species of orchids were sampled, colonizing 15 species of forophytes. The spatial distribution of phorophytes and orchids was aggregated. Forophytes colonized by orchids had significantly higher height and diameter at breast height (DBH) than other forophytes. Rough-type rhytidome was the most common in orchid-colonized phorophytes. Drimys angustifolia (Winteraceae) and Myrceugenia euosma (Myrtaceae) were the main forophytic species, crucial for the maintenance of orchid assemblage at this site. The information in this manuscript highlights the in-situ protection of Cattleya coccinea by its abundance at the site. This information will directly benefit the conservation and restoration of biological assemblies with characteristics like this site.

ABSTRACT Pioneer species have the potential to colonize disturbed environments, contributing to the establishment of other species and driving the dynamics and advancement of the structure of forest communities. The aim of this study was to assess the evolution of floristic-structural composition in the regenerating stratum of communities formed in the Mimosa scabrella Benth. understory with different ages. The study was carried out in four municipalities located in the Santa Catarina State South Plateau, on communities with different successional ages. The plot method was applied to the survey of all arboreal individuals with height ≥ 10 cm. The floristic-structural patterns found were compatible with the expected trend of Araucaria Forest successional dynamic, showing higher richness and abundance of regenerating individuals in the older understories.

RESUMO: Foi caracterizada a demografia e o padrão espacial de uma população de erva-mate (Ilex paraguariensis A.St.-Hil) abrangendo áreas em diferentes históricos de uso (presença e ausência de gado), em Floresta com Araucárias. A coleta de dados foi realizada em três ha, metade em cada área. Foi avaliada a frequência de indivíduos por classe de altura, padrão de distribuição espacial, distribuição diamétrica (para indivíduos reprodutivos) e razão sexual. O padrão ”J” invertido foi predominante, sendo exclusivo para área com presença de gado, local que apresentou uma menor densidade de indivíduos. O padrão de distribuição espacial predominante foi o agregado, sendo que os indivíduos reprodutivos possuem preferencialmente padrão aleatório nas menores distâncias. Os resultados indicam que a presença do gado altera a densidade de I. paraguariensis e a proporção de indivíduos nas classes demográficas avaliadas.

ABSTRACT: This study characterized the demography and spatial pattern of a yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis A.St.-Hil) population covering areas with different use histories (Presence and Absence of Cattle) in a Araucaria Forest. Data collection was performed in three ha, half in each area. The frequency of individuals by height, spatial distribution pattern, diameter distribution (for reproductive individuals) and sexual ratio were evaluated. An inverted “J” pattern predominated, being exclusive to an area with Cattle Presence, a place which presented a lower density of individuals. The predominant spatial distribution pattern was aggregated, and the reproductive individuals have a preferentially random pattern at the shortest distances. Results indicated that cattle presence changes the density of I. paraguariensis individuals and the proportion of individuals in the evaluated demographic classes.

ABSTRACT This study investigated the vegetation and environmental variable of fragments at different successional stages in a secondary riparian forest in the municipality of Ponte Alta, Santa Catarina state, Brazil (27°29’00” S and 50°17’11” W, WGS84), aiming to list priority variables for monitoring forest succession in riparian forests. For this, two areas were identified: “Reference” (conserved secondary forest) and “Restoration” (secondary forest under passive restoration). The Principal Component Analysis (PCA) indicated the existence of differences in the arboreal community diversity with lower values for the “Restoration” synthesized by PC1. The ground coverage by Ocellochloa rudis (Nees) Zuloaga & Morrone (Poaceae) was mainly in places with higher pH values and ability for effective cation exchange, with no preference of occurrence in either evaluated site. The composition of arboreal diversity was a relevant variable for monitoring passive restoration in this environment.

RESUMO Objetivou-se descrever o padrão florístico-estrutural, as características ecológicas e os potenciais das Myrtaceae na bacia hidrográfica do Rio Caveiras. As comunidades de Myrtaceae estudadas localizam-se no Planalto Sul Catarinense, Lages, São José do Cerrito e Urupema. Foram instaladas quatro blocos por município, totalizando 30 mil m2 de área amostral, nos quais todos os espécimes de Myrtaceae com diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP) ≥ 5 cm foram amostrados. A estrutura da comunidade de Myrtaceae foi avaliada pelos descritores fitossociológicos e a suficiência amostral foi verificada utilizando-se o método de rarefação. As abordagens ecológicas e indicações de uso não madeireiro basearam-se em bibliografia especializada e base de dados científicos. Foram amostrados 1.480 exemplares de Myrtaceae pertencentes a 21 espécies e 11 gêneros. As espécies mais abundantes foram Myrceugenia euosma, Siphoneugena reitzii e Myrcia palustris, as quais representaram mais de 50% da estrutura da comunidade. Quanto à classificação ecológica, destacou-se o grupo das secundárias iniciais (57%). As espécies amostradas são indicadas para restauração de áreas alteradas, usos ornamentais (100%) e fitoterápicos (60%). Apesar da representatividade e potencialidades das Myrtaceae, ainda são necessárias pesquisas para embasar a conservação via plano de manejo.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to describe the floristic-structural pattern, ecological characteristics and potentials of Myrtaceae in the Caveiras River Basin. The studied Myrtaceae communities are localized in Santa Catarina Southern Plateau – municipalities of Lages, São José do Cerrito and Urupema. Four sampling units were installed in each municipality, totaling a sampling area of 30,000 m2. All Myrtaceae individuals with DBH ≥ 5 cm were surveyed within the sampling units. The Myrtaceae community structure was assessed through phytosociological descriptors and the sampling sufficiency was verified using the rarefaction method. The ecological approach, as well as the indication of non-timber use of Myrtaceae resources was inferred from a specialized bibliography and scientific database. 1,480 Myrtaceae individuals were sampled, totaling 21 species and 11 genera. The most abundant species were Myrceugenia euosma, Siphoneugena reitzii and Myrcia palustris, which represent more than 50% of the community structure. Regarding the ecological classification, the late secondary group was the most expressive (57%). The sampled species are recommended for the restoration of altered areas, ornamental (100%) as well as phytotherapic use (60%). Despite the Myrtaceae representativeness and potentials, further research is necessary to support conservation through management plans.

RESUMO Este estudo objetivou caracterizar aspectos relacionados à dispersão de propágulos de Myrceugenia euosma (O. Berg) D. Legrand (Myrtaceae) em um fragmento de Floresta Ombrófila Mista em Urupema, SC. Para isso, foram avaliados 29 indivíduos reprodutivos quanto à frequência de visitantes, chuva de propágulos, remoção e caracterização de frutos. Registraram-se 140 visitas de pássaros, sem ocorrência de período preferencial. As espécies com maior frequência de visita e maior consumo de frutos foram Zonotrichia capensis (tico-tico) e Stephanophorus diadematus (cabeça-de-velho), consideradas potenciais dispersoras. A frequência de coletores contendo propágulos de M. euosma diminuiu com o aumento da distância, apresentando comportamento distinto em função do tipo de propágulo avaliado. Também foram verificadas sementes intactas junto às fezes das aves nos coletores. A taxa de remoção de frutos depositados no chão foi de 22%, isso demonstra a relevância desse tema no processo de dispersão das espécies, merecendo atenção na realização de estudos futuros.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to characterize aspects related to propagules dispersion of Myrceugenia euosma (Myrtaceae) in a fragment of Mixed Ombrophillous Forest, Urupema, SC. For this, twenty-nine seed tree were evaluated for focal observation of visitors, propagules rain, removal and characterization of fruits. We recorded 140 visits of birds, occurring without preferential visit period. The species with higher visiting frequency and consumption of fruits were Zonotrichia capensis (Rufous-collared Sparrow) and Stephanophorus diadematus (Diademed Tanager), considered as potential dispersers. The frequency of collectors containing M. euosma propagules decreased with increased distance, presenting distinct behavior depending the type of propagule evaluated. We also found intact seeds in bird feces inside the collectors. The removal rate of fruits deposited on the ground was 22%, demonstrating that this is an important topic on the dispersal process and deserves attention in future studies.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se caracterizar a estrutura demográfica e o padrão espacial de Campomanesia xanthocarpa (Mart.) O. Berg, Myrcianthes gigantea (D. Legrand) D. Legrande Myrciaria delicatula (DC.) O. Berg, bem como, verificara influência de variáveis ambientais sobre essas populações. Em um hectare de Floresta Atlântica, todos os indivíduos das três populações foram contados e mensurados quanto à altura e diâmetro. A estrutura demográfica foi avaliada após classificação de tamanho dos indivíduos, o padrão espacial pelo Índice de Morisita Padronizado. Campomanesia xanthocarpa e M. delicatula apresentaram distribuição de frequência dos indivíduos em classes de tamanho em J invertido, já a espécie M. gigantea não seguiu o mesmo comportamento. O padrão espacial das populações de C. xanthocarpa e M. delicatula foi, predominantemente, agregado e, para M. gigantea, o padrão foi aleatório. Verifica-se que as populações de Myrtaceae possuem respostas diferenciadas quanto à estrutura e distribuição espacial em sítios com os mesmos filtros ambientais.

ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to characterize the demographic structure and spatial pattern of Campomanesia xanthocarpa (Mart.) O. Berg, Myrcianthes gigantea (D. Legrand) D. Legrand and Myrciaria delicatula (DC.) O. Berg. Within one hectare of Ombrophilous Mixed Forest, all the three populations' individuals were counted and measured with regard to their height and diameter. From the collected data, the assessment of the demographic structure was realized after the individual's size classification. Spatial pattern was determined by applying the Standardized Morisita's Index. C. xanthocarpa and M. delicatula showed an inverted-J frequency distribution in the individuals size classes, which differed from M. gigantea that did not follow the same pattern. The spatial pattern of C. xanthocarpa and M. delicatula populations was found mainly to be aggregated; whereas, M. gigantea showed spatial randomness. The three Myrtaceae populations responded differently with regard to structure and spatial distribution in sites with the same environmental filters.

RESUMO Objetivou-se levantar o potencial terapêutico de espécies arbóreas presentes em remanescentes de Floresta Ombrófila Mista (FOM) localizados no Planalto Sul Catarinense, destacando as que possuem ações terapêuticas atestadas em ensaios científicos, assim como, aquelas com potencial medicinal segundo registros etnobotânicos. Para amostrar a composição florística arbórea foi empregado o método de quadrantes, registrando-se os indivíduos mais próximos do ponto central, que apresentassem DAP ≥ 5 cm. A amostragem foi realizada em Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APP’s) e/ou Reserva Legal, com o auxílio de 20 transecções contendo 20 pontos quadrantes cada, totalizando 2,61 hectares. Dentre as 97 espécies registradas e identificadas no levantamento, 16 possuem ação medicinal descrita e atestada em literatura e 12 espécies são descritas como potenciais de acordo com conceitos etnobotânicos. O presente estudo mostrou que pequenos remanescentes florestais podem contribuir para a manutenção de espécies da FOM e basear futuros estudos sobre plantas medicinais ou com outros potenciais bioativos.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the medicinal potential of tree species in Araucaria Forest (FOM) remnants in Santa Catarina Plateau, highlighting those with therapeutic actions attested in scientific trials, as well as those with medicinal potential according to ethnobotanical records. The floristic composition was sampled through the point-centered quarter method, registering the individuals with DBH ≥ 5 cm closest to the center point. Sampling was conducted in Permanent Preservation Areas (APP’s) and/or Legal Reserve, with the help of 20 transects with 20 points quadrants each, totaling 2.61 hectares. Among the species recorded and identified, 16 of them, classified into 13 plant families, have medicinal potential described and attested in literature and 12 species within 10 families, are suggested as potential, according to ethnobotanical concepts. The present study showed that these sites may contribute to the maintenance of species of FOM and to base future studies on medicinal plants and/or other bioactive potential.

As espécies brasileiras de Myrtaceae compreendem diversas plantas arbóreas e arbustivas que podem ser utilizadas na produção de frutos para consumo in natura ou para industrialização. Informações sobre avaliação da qualidade de sementes dessas espécies não estão bem definidas, principalmente as relacionadas à adequação do teste de germinação. Objetivou-se testar substratos e temperaturas para realização do teste de germinação em sementes de Acca sellowiana (O. Berg) Burret. (goiaba-serrana), Campomanesia xanthocarpa O. Berg (guabiroba), Eugenia involucrata DC. (cereja-do-mato) e Eugenia pyriformis Camb. (uvaia). Sementes de diferentes procedências foram submetidas ao teste de germinação em substratos areia e rolo de papel tipo germitest, umedecidos com água destilada, e nas temperaturas 15 °C, 25 °C, 30 °C, 35 °C e 20-30 °C, sob luz constante, em germinadores tipo BOD. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições de 25 sementes/tratamento/lote/espécie, e as médias dos tratamentos foram comparadas pelo teste de Tukey (P < 0,01). O teste de germinação pode ser conduzido na temperatura de 25 ºC e em substrato rolo de papel para Eugenia involucrata e Eugenia pyriformis. Ambos os substratos podem ser utilizados para o teste de germinação de Acca sellowiana, a 25 ºC. A temperatura de 25 ºC e alternância de 20-30 ºC são indicadas para Campomanesia xanthocarpa, assim como, os substratos areia e rolo de papel.

The Brazilian species of the Myrtaceae comprises several arborescent and shrubby plants that are used to produce fruit for fresh consumption or industrialization. Information about the seed quality evaluations for these species are scarce in the literature, mainly related to the adequacy of the germination tests. This study tests different substrates and temperatures to test the germination of Acca sellowiana (O. Berg) Burret. (goiaba-serrana), Campomanesia xanthocarpa O. Berg (guabiroba), Eugenia involucrata DC. (cereja-do-mato) and Eugenia pyriformis Camb. (uvaia) seeds. Two seed lots were collected at different locations, one for each species, according to the requirements of the selection matrices. Sand and germitest paper towel rolls substrates were used, moistened with distilled water, and submitted to temperatures of 15 °C, 25 °C, 30 °C, 35 °C and 20-30 °C under constant light, on P.D.A. germinators. The experimental delineation was entirely randomized with four repetitions of 25 seeds/treatment/lot/specie, and treatment means were compared using the Tukey test (P < 0.01). The germination tests can be conducted at 25 °C using paper roll substrate for Eugenia pyriformis and E. involucrate. Both substrates can be used to Acca sellowiana germination test at 25 °C. The temperature of 25 °C and alternating 20-30 °C are indicated for Campomanesia xanthocarpa, as well as sand and paper roll substrates.

O presente estudo objetivou conhecer os padrões da composição florística e estrutural do componente arbóreo de um trecho de remanescente de Floresta Ombrófila Mista Montana em Campos Novos - SC e determinar as variáveis ambientais que influenciam estes padrões. Para isso, foi amostrado 1 ha de floresta por meio de 50 parcelas de 10 × 20 m dispostas de forma sistemática, distanciada 30 m entre si, no remanescente florestal. Dentro das parcelas foram identificados e mensurados (circunferência medida a altura do peito, CAP, e altura total) CAP, e altura total) todos os indivíduos arbóreos vivos com CAP ≥ 15,7 cm. Os dados ambientais relacionados às propriedades químicas e físicas dos solos e à topografia também foram coletados em cada parcela. Foram calculados o índice de Shannon-Wiener (H'), a equabilidade de Pielou (J') e os estimadores fitossociológicos. A organização florístico-estrutural do fragmento foi analisada por meio de uma NMDS (Nonmetric multidimensional scalling). As variáveis ambientais foram ajustadas a posteriori à ordenação produzida, sendo aquelas significativas (p < 0,05) plotadas na forma de vetores. Foram amostrados 1.027 indivíduos, que totalizaram uma área basal de 43,57 m2, distribuídos em 88 espécies e 41 famílias botânicas. A diversidade do remanescente estudado foi relativamente alta (H'=3,59) e a dominância baixa (J'=0,80). A espécie de maior VI foi Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (14,44%). A análise multivariada NMDS indicou um gradiente florístico-estrutural relacionado à cota média (altitude), saturação de bases, pH e teores de P nos solos.

In order to identify the floristic and structure patterns of the tree component and to determine the environmental variables that influence these patterns in a sector of montane Araucaria Forest remnant, 50 plots of 10 × 20 m were allocated, using systematic sampling, 30m apart from each other, in Campos Novos, SC. Within the plots, all living trees with cbh (circumference at breast height) ≥ 15,7 cm were identified and measured (cbh and total height). Environmental data related to chemical and physical properties of soils and topography were also collected from each sampled plot. To describe the tree vegetation richness, diversity and structure, the Shannon-Wiener index (H'), the Pielou evenness index (J') and the phytosociological estimates were obtained. The floristic and structural organization of the fragment was analyzed through a NMDS (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling). The environmental variables were fitted a posteriori in the produced ordination, being those significant (p < 0.05) plotted as vectors. A total 1.027 individuals were sampled, which represented a basal area of 43.57 m2, distributed in 88 species and 41 families. The diversity of the fragment studied was relatively high (H'=3.59) with low dominance (J'=0.80). The specie with higher VI was Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (14.44%). The NMDS indicated a floristic-structural gradient related to the mean elevation (altitude), soil base saturation, soil pH and P soil content.

Objetivou-se neste trabalho descrever as características morfológicas de plântulas durante a germinação de Psidium cattleianum Sabine e Acca sellowiana (O. Berg) Burret. Para a descrição da germinação e das características morfológicas das plântulas, 100 sementes foram colocadas para germinar em substrato papel tipo germitest à temperatura de 25ºC. Foram analisados: tipo, forma e coloração da raiz; pilosidade, forma e coloração do hipocótilo e do epicótilo; consistência, textura, forma, nervação, coloração, tipo de bordo, ápice e base dos cotilédones e protófilos. A germinação de ambas é epígea fanerocotiledonar, formando plântula com sistema radicial axial, raiz principal pivotante longa, com paracotilédones e eofilos simples e opostos. Foram registradas glândulas e células secretoras em todos os órgãos, exceto na raiz, para as duas espécies. A semente de Psidium cattleianum inicia germinação aproximadamente 10 dias após a semeadura quando ocorre a abertura do opérculo e a protrusão radicular. Acca sellowiana, após 28 dias, apresenta hipocótilo longo, cilíndrico, ereto, de coloração marrom-avermelhada, glabro. Na ocorrência de total exposição dos paracotilédones, estes já apresentam coloração verde intensa, demonstrando o potencial fotossintetizante pela plântula em crescimento. A descrição do processo germinativo juntamente com a morfologia de plântulas constitui importante elemento de reconhecimento de espécies.

This study describes the morphological characterization during seedling development of Psidium cattleianum Sabine e Acca sellowiana (O. Berg) Burret. To describe germination and seedling morphology, 100 seeds were allowed to germinate on germitest paper as substrate at a temperature of 25 °C. Were analyzed: type, shape and color of the root, hairiness, shape and coloration of hypocotyl and epicotyl, consistency, texture, shape, venation, color, type of board, apex and base of the cotyledons and protophilus. The germination is epigeous phanerocotyledonal for both species, forming seedlings with an axial root system, long pivoting main root with paracotyledons and simple eophylls, opposites. Glands and secreting cells were observed in all organs except in the root system for both species. The germination of the Psidium cattleianum seed begins approximately 10 days after sowing, when the operculum opens followed immediately by the root protrusion. Acca sellowiana shows a long, cylindrical, erect, brownish- red and glabrous hypocotyl after 28 days. When the paracotyledons are totally exposed, they immediately show an intense green color, demonstrating the photosynthetic potential of the seedling growth. The germination process description alongside the morphology of seedlings constitutes an important element for recognition of species.

Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, verificar a possibilidade do uso de metodologia alternativa para o teste de tetrazólio em sementes de Araucaria angustifolia. Sementes de três lotes foram submetidas à imersão em água por 18 horas e tiveram seus tegumentos e tecido nutritivo removidos ou não. Os embriões foram imersos em diferentes concentrações - 1,0%, 0,5% e 0,1% de solução - a 25°C, por uma hora, além de ser utilizada metodologia já descrita para a espécie. Para comparação dos resultados, foi realizado teste de germinação. É possível utilizar a metodologia alternativa, por meio da imersão das sementes em água por 18 horas, seguida da remoção do tegumento e do megagametófito, e da imersão em solução de tetrazólio 0,1% ou 0,5% a 25°C por uma hora, para a avaliação da qualidade das sementes de A. angustifolia.

The objective of this research was to verify the possible use of an alternative methodology for the tetrazolium test in A. angustifolia seeds. Seeds of three lots were submitted to immersion in water for 18 hours. The seeds had their coats and nutritive tissue removed and the embryos were soaked in 1.0%, 0.5% and 0.1% tetrazolium solution at 25 °C for one hour, applying the standard methodology described for the species. Germination tests were performed to verify the reliability of results through the tetrazolium test. Immersion in water for 18 hours followed by the removal of seed coat and nutritive tissue and immersion in tetrazolium solution at 0.1% or 0.5% at 25 °C for 1 hour was an efficient methodology to evaluate the seed viability of A. angustifolia.

Com o objetivo de selecionar espécies para programas de recuperação em Áreas de Preservação Permanente no Planalto Catarinense foi realizado o levantamento da composição florística e da estrutura fitossociológica e, a caracterização dos grupos ecológicos e síndromes de dispersão das espécies ocorrentes nestes locais. A área de estudo, fazenda Campo de Dentro, localiza-se no município de Otacílio Costa (SC), onde foi empregado o método de quadrantes, em 20 transecções compostas por 20 pontos amostrais. As espécies que apresentaram os maiores valores de importância, potenciais para recuperação, foram Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B.Sm. & Downs; Mimosa scabrella Benth.; Cinnamomum amoenum (Nees & Mart.) Kosterm.; Lithraea brasiliensis Marchand, Ocotea pulchella (Nees & Mart.) Mez; Ilex paraguariensis A.St.-Hil.; Matayba elaeagnoides Radlk.; Ilex theezans Mart. exReissek e Vernonanthura discolor (Spreng.) H.Rob., que representam os diferentes grupos ecológicos, destacando-se a zoocoria como síndrome de dispersão. A alta diversidade de espécies arbóreas evidencia a riqueza desses locais que, muitas vezes, são negligenciados em projetos de recuperação.

In this study, we carried out a survey of the floristic composition, phytosociological structure, ecological groups, and dispersal syndromes of the species occurring in riparian zones in the highlands of Santa Catarina state in order to select species for recovery programs. The study area is located in the municipality of Otacílio Costa. We employed the point-centered quadrant method allocated in twenty transects with twenty points each. The following species presented the highest importance values and recovery potentials: Sebastiania commersoniana (Baill.) L.B.S.m. & Downs, Mimosa scabrella Benth., Cinnamomum amoenum (Nees & Mart.) Kosterm., Lithraea brasiliensis Marchand, Ocotea pulchella (Nees & Mart.) Mez, Ilex paraguariensis A.St.-Hil., Matayba elaeagnoides Raldk., Ilex theezans Mart. ex Reissek and Vernonanthura discolor (Spreng.) H.Rob. These species represent different ecological groups, and zoochory is the most important dispersion syndrome. The high diversity of tree species shows the richness of these locations, which are often overlooked in recovery projects.

Objetivou-se, neste estudo, verificar a influência de diferentes métodos de secagem na qualidade de sementes de Acca sellowiana e realizar a classificação fisiológica destas sementes quanto à tolerância à dessecação e ao armazenamento. Para testar o comportamento das sementes em relação a diferentes métodos de secagem, foram utilizados três tratamentos - Controle, Secagem Lenta e Secagem Rápida. Nestes tratamentos, para ambas as secagens, o teor de água foi de 20% de base úmida. Para a classificação fisiológica, sementes de A. sellowiana foram submetidas à secagem até 12% e 5% de teor de água, e ao armazenamento durante 90 dias, em refrigerador a 8 ºC. Para sementes recém-colhidas e armazenadas por 30 e 90 dias, o tipo de secagem não influenciou na qualidade de sementes de A. sellowiana. Em sementes armazenadas por 60 dias, o tratamento controle apresentou germinação superior aos demais. Sementes de A. sellowiana podem ser fisiologicamente classificadas como intermediárias.

In this study, we aimed to verify the influence of different drying methods and physiologically classify Acca sellowiana seeds with regard to desiccation and storage tolerance. Three treatments (control, slow drying and fast drying) were used to test the performance of seeds in relation to different drying methods. We verified humidity content of 20% on a dry basis for both drying methods. For the physiological classification, seeds of A. sellowiana were dried to water contents of 12% and 5%, and stored in a refrigerator at 8 ºC for 90 days. The quality of seeds was assessed by germination percentage and speed index (SGI). No influence of the drying methods was observed for seeds that were simply collected and stored for 30 to 60 days. Seeds stored for 60 days presented greater germination in the control treatment. Seeds of A. sellowiana may be classified as intermediate as to tolerance to desiccation and storage.

RESUMO A Floresta Ombrófila Mista Alto-Montana é uma formação pouco estudada que ocorre em altitudes acima de 1.000 m. Os objetivos deste estudo foram conhecer os padrões florísticos e estruturais do componente arbóreo de um fragmento desta floresta na região do Planalto Sul Catarinense e determinar as variáveis ambientais que influenciam esses padrões. O levantamento da composição florística e estrutural e a coleta das variáveis ambientais foram conduzidos em 50 parcelas de 200 m2. Nelas, todos os indivíduos arbóreos com CAP (circunferência medida a altura do peito) ≥ 15,7 cm foram medidos (CAP e altura) e identificados. Foram coletadas, em cada parcela, variáveis ambientais relacionadas às características químicas e físicas dos solos, topográficas e de cobertura do dossel. Foram calculados os parâmetros fitossociológicos e a estrutura diamétrica da comunidade e das populações com valor de importância (VI) acima de 5 %. A similaridade florístico-estrutural entre as parcelas foi analisada pela NMDS (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling) e os vetores das variáveis ambientais significativas (p < 0,05) foram plotados a posteriori. Foram identificadas 50 espécies arbóreas distribuídas em 33 gêneros e 20 famílias botânicas. As espécies com maior VI foram: Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (17,32 %), Myrceugenia euosma (O.Berg) D.Legrand (15,24 %) e Acca sellowiana (O.Berg) Burret (7,84 %). A estrutura diamétrica de toda a comunidade e das populações estudadas (exceto Dicksonia sellowiana Hook.) teve distribuição próxima ao "J invertido". A análise NMDS demonstrou maior porcentagem de argila nas parcelas com maior densidade de Araucaria angustifolia e menor porcentagem, nas parcelas com maior densidade de Dicksonia sellowiana, Inga lentiscifolia Benth. e Ocotea pulchella Mart. As parcelas de maior declividade tiveram maior densidade de Drimys brasiliensis Miers e aquelas de menor declividade, maior cota e maior cobertura do dossel, tiveram maior ocorrência de Drimys angustifolia Miers, Prunus myrtifolia (L.) Urb., Calyptranthes concinna DC. e Myrceugenia oxysepala (Burret) D.Legrand & Kausel.

ABSTRACT The highland Araucaria Forest is a little-studied forest formation, occurring in altitudes above 1,000 m. The objectives of this study were to understand the structural and floristic patterns of the tree component of a remaining of this forest in the southern plateau region of Santa Catarina State and to determine the environmental variables that influence these patterns. The tree component survey and the environmental data collection were conducted in 50 plots of 200 m2. Within these plots, all living trees with circumference at breast height (CBH) ≥ 15,7 cm were measured (CBH and height) and identified. In each plot, environmental variables related to soils physical and chemical traits, topography and canopy cover were collected. Phytosociological parameters and the diameter structure (whole tree community and tree populations with the importance value above 5 %) were calculated. The floristic-structural similarities among plots were analyzed by NMDS (Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling) and vectors of environmental variables (p < 0.05) were plotted a posteriori. A total of 50 tree species were identified, distributed in 33 genera and 20 families. The species with the highest VI were Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze (17.32 %), Myrceugenia euosma (O. Berg) D. Legrand (15.24 %) and Acca sellowiana (O. Berg) Burret (7.84 % ). The diameter structure of the whole community and of the study populations (except Dicksonia sellowiana Hook.) showed a distribution close to the "inverted J". The NMDS analysis showed a higher percentage of clay in the plots with the highest density of Acca sellowiana and lowest percentage in the plots with high density of Dicksonia sellowiana, Inga lentiscifolia Benth. and Ocotea pulchella Mart. Plots with higher declivity had a higher density of Drimys brasiliensis Miers and those of lower declivity, higher elevation and greater canopy closure, had a higher occurrence of Drimys angustifolia Miers, Prunus myrtifolia (L.) Urb, Calyptranthes concinna DC. and Myrceugenia oxysepala (Burret) D. Legrand & Kausel.
